I am a developer at heart, specializing mostly in WordPress. I am the editor of the WordPress section on Smashing Magazine and I write for other awesome places like WPMU DEV, Tuts+ and others. When not coding or writing you’ll find me playing board games, playing some guitar or running with my dog.”

Presentation: Learning About REST APIs through the WordPress HTTP API

“I always found API’s confusing because I didn’t understand all the calls and responses, how to make them, cURL, etc… Yuck! One day I spent 20 minutes learning about how HTTP works and it all became clear in an instant and I realized how powerful it can be!”

What unique perspective are you bringing to this talk?

“Instead of focusing on specific APIs (although I will look at an example) I want to show how HTTP works because it is SO simple, yet is the basis of not just all web API’s, but most of the web itself.”

What’s one really cool thing people will discover during your session?

“How easy it is to integrate REST APIs (like Twitter) with your WordPress themes and plugins.”

Do you have a good WordPress related story, anecdote or memory?

“I went up to Drew Jaynes (@DrewAPicture) and insisted that he was Mika Epstein (@Ipstenu) – who is a woman. I was playing around with wireframes the day before and mixed up their pictures. Drew still has no clue and probably thinks I escaped from a mental institution 🙂 ”

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp Toronto?

“Meeting excelling WordPress people and having long talks 🙂 ”
